JULY 15, 2010 Hi Everyone, This month has been so exciting. The 4th of July Golf Cart Parade, the Vesper Celebration and 4th of July Picnic plus all day swimming, Thanksgiving Day in July with turkey and all the delicious trimmings. Of course that’s to include our recently engaged couple and we are all looking forward to wedding bells. I hardly have time to schedule our doctor appointments in between our social events. Where could you have more fun than in Betmar in the Summer. Bryan opened Coffee Hour with invocation and pledge led by Lorey Goodenough. Bryan led off the general announcements with a notice to all that he and Donna Sue now have a golf cart with a pink roof. He said it was NOT intentional. It seems the red crepe paper he used for decorations on the cart for the 4th of July Parade, faded when it rained. Just to inform us all that NOTHING he has tried so far has removed the stain. A lot of us think it looks quite stylish. It’s a nice summer color. Donuts this morning were paid for by Rich and Barbara Miller in honor of their parents. Any donations will be given to Meals On Wheels. The Blood Mobile will be here later this month. A definite date will be forth coming. Our “Bug Club” web site has been down since Father’s Day. 3Oaks is moving equipment and will have us up and running shortly. There will be a lot of updates that will be very interesting. Log on if you haven’t yet…www.3oaks.com/betmar. Birthdays & Anniversaries: Ann Meteer 7/9 and Don & Lois Bower 7/6 – 42 years. Visitors: Brianna Schufelt from Lady Lake visiting Aunty Jane Murch and Grand-daughter of Grace Huntley.Elisa Hamm of Brockton, Mass., visiting Barbara Hamm. Until next time: God orders our “stops” as well as our “steps”. Psalm 40:1. end |
Sick Bay: We were notified that Pat Armingdinger & Don McNeil were on vacation in Maine and Canada and were involved in an accident, totaled their van, both hospitalized. They are both out and recuperating at the home of Bob and Patti Page. Until they can do for themselves. Both have severe lower back and neck injuries. Dee Payne has a lump in her breast plus some other concerns. June Tanner is having health problems, she’s 91. Bill Sosuk of Sandra is in Zephyr Haven rehab for 4-5 weeks. Visitors would be welcomed. Tommy Czarnecki is recovering from pneumonia but he is not a “good” patient. He wants to be up and running so if you see him out and about, call Joanne. Please keep all of these loved ones in your prayers.

BETMAR NEWS FOR BUG CLUB 7-04-10
Hi Everyone, Happy fourth of July. It’s been a terrific week in beautiful Betmar Park. Home to some of the nicest and best looking people in the whole world…..and, of course, the most humble!! We’ve had some nice rain, but not too much. The overnight temperatures are in the mid-seventies. Our air conditioner is set on 77 and some mornings it comes on early. When that happens, I know it will be a scorcher. We have a lot of brave “walkers” right around dawn……fewer in the later morning hours. I admire them all. I do exercises! I’ve gotten my heart rate up to around 92/60 several times this week while typing on my keyboard. Then Jack and I work out together also…..we do “push outs” on our swing every evening. At least 50 or so. Sometimes morning and evening. I know….hard to believe we’re so active. It’s living in Betmar that does it. Must keep up with everyone….healthy, happy and loving life. Bryan Toll opened coffee and Lucy Powelson led us in the Invocation and Pledge. This was the end of the month and we always want to honor our “Coffee & Doughnut Servers”. A big thanks to: Leo & Chris Donohgue, Dick & Cathy Davis, Lloyd & Shirly Kreider, Jerry Chapman, Bob Groot, Luella Guindon, Roberta Jacobs, Bill & Linda Carillion, Ann Brown, Rose Smith, Bob & Ethel Clark, Asa & Gayle McClellan, Ann Jones and Joan Lancaster. Sick Bay: Stella Trombley was released from the hospital in Maine last week. She and Don will be coming home and reports that she is doing better. Vincent Sestok of Sandra Avenue had an emergency operation on 6-23. He will be in rehab for about a month. Keep all of these loved ones in your prayers. Birthdays and Anniversaries: Ron Brown, June 29, 76 years young. Luman and Barbara Rockhill, 41 years on July 4. Paul and Lucy Gagnon, 56 years on July 3. Congratulations. The Herbert family is happy to have Jessick visiting them for a while. Welcome Jessick. From our Golf Course: Monday Mixed League: 1st Lucy Gagnon, Marilyn Landry, Rich Heon & Bob Landry. 2nd Joyce Stumpe, Skip Miller, Jerry McClure & Jerry Chapman. 3rd Bobbi Elkins, John Carmody, George Lebourdais & Fred Elkins. LADIES SCRAMBLE: 1st Pauline Denis, Lil Howe & Eiko Law. 2nd Claire Hart, Diana MacDiarmid & Marge Broadbent. 3rd Georgia Murray, Marilyn Landry & Barb Peet. MEN’S FRIDAY SCRAMBLE: 1st Bob Landry, Stan Kell, Bob Gabbert & Norm Dwelley. 2nd Dave Tingler, Denny Vandermolen & George Lebourdais. 3rd Jack Crawford, Jerry Chapman & Jim Rich. Fun Darts: Bryan Toll tossed a 125 for the high score Tuesday, followed by George Broadbent with a 115 and Connie Johnson with an even 100. The winners of the Stars Games were Gayle McClellan, John West, Joan McPhail & Richard Mason. They do have fun at “Fun Darts”. Come on down. Till next time: Listening is an open door to understanding. Proverbs 20:5

SUMMER SPOTLIGHT this week is on Joan & Fred Fletcher. Fred has typed a few interesting facts and I’m going to send this information on as he has presented it to me. “Joan and I are from Massachusetts, Wayland & Framingham. I met Joan after I returned from Korea when I got out of the Air Force to go back to school. We were married in 1954 just after I reenlisted. I was awarded the Bronze Star in Viet Nam and the Meritorious Service Medal when I retired from the Air Force in 1970. I retired from Computervision Corporation after 18 years as a division vice president in 1987. Computervision was a pioneer in the computer aided design, manufacturing and engineering field and was a Fortune 500 company when I retired. Somehow I managed to earn a BA in Economics from Framingham State College during this time. Joan was a homemaker for much of this time because of my frequent absences, often unexpected. We have 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. We came to Betmar to visit Carlo & Renee Bravo a couple of times and that resulted in us buying in 1991. Carlo was my buddy since the 5th grade and best man at our wedding. We slowly became more and more involved. I started by working the pancake breakfasts while Joan started in Hobby. I learned to play golf from Gerry Bungay who was Betmar’s instructor at the time. I was hooked. We signed up with the Swim Club right away & still belong. We were Block workers for a time till I took over Betmar’s Fire Rescue Squad campaign. Then it was activities chair on the Golf Board that led to bringing in a lot of shows for the Club and later for Betmar. I ran the A1 Card raffle for the “What Not Sale” during that time. In 1998 the Hobby Club nominated us as Prince & Princess with Larry & Dee Payne as King & Queen, which was a lot of fun. That summer we picked up the Teenie Weenie & I started writing the Betmar News in the summer. Jim Bourque put the News on the BUG Club web page for me which he still does today. We worked with Sue Filtch to put on the summer monthly events. In 1999 Sue & I Co-chaired the Special Activities Committee that I think started with the 2000 New Years Hoe Down. I served as Activities vice chair on the Betmar Board for Dee Payne. We started the “Suport the Troops” program in April of 2003. In 2007 I started Betmar’s “Household Battery Recycling” program in support of the West Zephyrhills Elementary School.” That ends Fred’s notes. Thank you Fred and Joan for all you’ve done for Betmar.

June 20, 2010 Hi everyone, Doesn’t seem possible the kids are out of school, Father’s Day has come and gone and here we are enjoying another beautiful day in Betmar. From the vantage point of our “newly remodeled front porch” we’ve been watching some of the families enjoying one of the most pleasurably gifts of life. Getting OUT OF SCHOOL. I feel myself wanting to jump up and down and shout “yippee”! Of course that feeling doesn’t last very long……..about as long as it takes for me to maneuver myself out of the swing I get a firm grip on reality. Don’t laugh……you know what I mean!!! Bryan opened coffee this morning , spoke the invocation and was assisted by the great Granddaugter of Leo and Dorothy Voss, Damari Davenport from Michigan and also Austin Flusett from Lady Lake, Florida nephew of Jan & Brian Muich, These two young people helped to lead us in the pledge to our Flag and also called the table numbers. It’s such a pleasure to have the young ones visit us. We, as our Betmar Family, grieve for the family of Norbert Schuh, late of Sandra Avenue passed away on June 12th, 2010. June 24th would have been Norbert’s 105th birthday. In remembrance of him, there will be a memorial service on June 24th At St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5316 11th Street, at 12 Noon. Sick Bay: Edie Magoon still needs our prayer. She’s in rehab, but it’s too slow for Edie. She wants to be up and going. Bill Russell has been hospitalized in Zephyrhills. Christa hopes they will be able to find some answers soon. He’s in a lot of pain. Gloria Kopp is doing well and still in the process of healing. Bill and Irene Manning’s daughter Vicki has to undergo major surgery in Indiana Tuesday the 22nd. They would appreciate your prayers and Irene says Vicki really loves to receive cards. Her address is on the bulletin board in CH 2. We received an Email from Gus Clarke updating us on the condition of his lovely wife Bridie. She is home now and progressing as well as can be expected after the extensive surgery she endured. Gus tried to glean a little sympathy as he is now chief cook, bottle washer & grocery delivery guy. He is now stating what a lucky guy he is to have had all the tender loving care from Bridie and gives a lot honor to her. Our prayers are still with them. Gus also gives a more accurate of where U.B.Weber is in his efforts to regain his strength. U.B. had his stroke last September, was in the hospital then moved to a nursing home for a few weeks and then into assisted living where he is at present. Gus and Les Jewitt played golf with UB last June 29th, 2009, and he actually did very well. He now has just purchased a home in a small town (Almira, Ontario) and is planning to move there on July 10th, 2010. He believes he can manage for himself and has family near by. Gus said he just spoke with him on June 17 and he is excited about his move. Keep all these loved ones in your prayers. Monday Bridge: 1st Claire Hart, 2nd Dick Quinlin and 3rd Anna Rancourt. Fun Darts: The high score at Fun Darts Tuesday night went to Fred Fletcher with a 119. The winners of the Stars games were Bryan Toll, Lois Nelmes and Lucy Powelson. From our Golf course: I’ve always been fearful I would
leave someone out of the news. Well…..it has happened. I missed Ladies

It’s been warmer than usual and for longer than usual. More days in the
90’s than last year. So we do our outside work in morning and enjoy the
air throughout the day. A lot of our “outside work” consists of picking up
the paper and taking out the garbage. That way the heat is tolerable. We
must “pace” ourselves, wouldn’t you agree? SUMMER SPOTLIGHT: SUMMER SPOTLIGT: Our spotlight this week is on Miss Millie Uhlman. Millie was born in Manchester, NH on August 11, 1913. She aspired to be a school teacher and did so for more than 28 years. When asked which grade was her favorite, she said she loved them all. Millie met our beloved “Mort” while at a summer camp in New Hampshire. She said there wasn’t anything especially outstanding about him. He was a hard worker and polite but most of all he had a car!!! Mort must have kept that car in good shape, because they were married in 1936 and enjoyed many happy years together. They purchased their vacant lot in Betmar at the corner of Eighth & Flint in 1970 then retired in 1973 and had their home built on that lot. Millie has been active in the Garden Club, Darts, Golf, the “Bunco Group”, along with working Bingo, singing in Chorus and playing in the kitchen band. She is a special person and dear to many hearts. Her daughter Lois Kell is her constant companion and helps Millie to enjoy her active lifestyle. Thank you Millie for all you’ve done to help make Betmar the wonderful place it is today.
Sunday, July 4th will be a “Free Swim Day”. After Vespers, the Swim Club will sponsor a picnic with hot dogs, chips and soft drinks all for a donation of $4.00. Tickets will be available at coffee. Contact Joan McPhail or Connie Simoneau anytime. The tickets will also be available at every coffee. Entertainment at the pool on Friday nights starts at 6:00 at the old pool with Swim Volleyball starting at 6:30. |
