The 3^rd annual Ducky Race and Picnic was held on Sun, Feb 28. The race was delayed for a day due to rain and cold weather. This year games and a dunk tank were added to the festivities. Scheduled celebrities to be in the dunk tank were Dick Ziegenfuss, Barbara Jacobbe, Dee Payne, Linda Lafayette, Bryan Toll, Gus Clarke and Harry Taylor. Even Sunday was a cold and windy day so being in the dunk tank was not easy. The day was also a free swim day but there were no participants because of the weather. The good news was the sun was shining and in Betmar we have fun no matter what the weather.

     This year the food “tent” was the gazebo. The wind made the tent impractical. Lucy Mastro and Connie Johnson were in charge of the food. Ed Myers provided music and was also the announcer during the race. Karan Ahlberg and Karen Dolan were in charge of games. Bill Russell was in charge of the dunk tank. The ducky race was the final event of the day. Dick Ziegenfuss and his crew had the ducky chute all set up and were ready to go. The race consisted of eight heats which had eight winners each. Those eight winners were then in the run for the final race. All sixty-four ducks were winners of prizes. The top three prizes were Walmart gift certificate won by Bruce Myers and Betmar Swim Club Memberships won by Don Bower and Mary Payne. The Swim Club wants to thank the many volunteers who made these events possible.
